Biography

Sibel Çoban Curriculum Vitae:

Born in 1964, she started her music education at Marmara University Atatürk Faculty of Education Department of Fine Arts Department of Music Education in 1980. She completed her undergraduate education at this institution in 1984. She completed her postgraduate education with her thesis titled “Problems and Solutions of Major Violin Training in Raising Modern Turkish Music Teachers in Faculties of Education at Our Universities” under the counseling of Prof. Fethi KOPUZ at the same university in 1987.

Similarly, she completed her doctorate at the same institution with her doctoral thesis titled “Examining the Repertoire of Educational Violin Concertos to Be Used in Faculties of Education Departments of Music” under the counseling of Prof. Dr. Edip GÜNAY in 1998. During doctorate, she was accepted into Sheffield University Department of Music in England as a guest student between 1993-1995. Meanwhile, she completed the practices of her doctoral thesis with Dr. Anthony Bennett. In England, she sustained music studies as the 1. Violin at Sheffield University Symphony Orchestra and Sheffield Philharmonic Orchestra and attended many concerts. She returned home in1995.

Her academic life, which began as a research assistant at the university where she graduated in 1986, has continued as an Associate Professor since 2008 and Professor since 2014. During her academic studies, she has actively attended educational and artistic activities like international congresses and concerts in many European countries such as Poland, Greece, Spain, England, Hungary, Estonia, Scotland and Ireland. She has also actively attended many congresses and concerts in Turkey and her researches and articles have been published in a number of national and international refereed journals. She continues her work as a referee in national and international academic media organs. She has sustained her duties as the International Erasmus Coordinator of the Department, where she works as an academic, and Teaching Practice Coordinator since 2006. As well as undergraduate and postgraduate courses, she conducts thesis counseling of many young researchers. She has written two books as national and international.

Kodaly Music Education Approach in Turkey and the widespread recognition that underlies "1. He organized the International Kodaly Training Days Workshop on 9-12 October 2017 at Marmara University within the scope of BAPKO Project and was the general coordinator of the event.

Between 18 and 22 September 2019, BAPKO Project will be held at the Göztepe Campus of Marmara University. She organized the International Kodaly Training Days and led the project.

She has been sustaining chamber music studies in the violin group of Kopuz Chamber Orchestra since 1983. She has actively attended many concerts with this orchestra. As well as academic studies, she actively conducts her music studies as the founder member of Kopuz Chamber Orchestra.
