Gönül Sakız received her BSc degree in Biology Teacher Education from Buca Faculty of Education at Dokuz Eylül University located in Izmir. She worked as a Biology teacher for four years in Istanbul. She received an International Graduate Study Scholarship granted by Turkish Ministry of National Education and completed her MA and PhD degrees in Elementary Education at the Ohio State University in the USA. She currently works as a faculty member in the Department of Elementary Education in Ataturk Faculty of Education at Marmara University in Istanbul, Turkey. At the same time, she contributes to the faculty as the Departmental Erasmus+ Coordinator (2007-ongoing), Faculty Accreditation Coordinator (2018-ongoing) and Faculty Quality Board Member (2022-ongoing). Sakız provided assistance as a reviewer in numerous TÜBİTAK, WoS journal articles and international projects. She contributed to the Educational Psychology journal as a member of the Editorial Review Committee (2013-2016) and Consulting Editor (2016-2024). Her research interests include science education, self-regulated learning, pre-service and inservice teacher education, teacher-student relations, academic self-efficacy, academic emotions, academic motivation, and instructional methods in elementary education.
