Doç. Dr. ALPARSLAN NAS

After obtaining my BA and MA degrees in Cultural Studies from Sabancı University, I pursued my Ph.D. in Advertising at Marmara University Faculty of Communication in Istanbul. During my doctoral research, I focused on examining the commodification of social movements through a critical lens of advertising and branding. Following the completion of my Ph.D. in 2015, I furthered my academic journey as a research assistant in the Department of Advertising, where I delved into analyzing advertisements from critical and cultural studies perspectives. During this time, I authored my debut book, "Nation Branding: Theory and Practice," published in Turkish.

In 2018, I was promoted to the position of associate professor within the same department. Subsequently, my first English-language book, "Media Representations of the Cultural Other in Turkey," was published by Palgrave Macmillan. In addition to my scholarly pursuits, I actively contribute to academia by serving as a peer reviewer for esteemed international journals, such as Feminist Media Studies, Asian Journal of Communication, Critical Studies in Media Communication, The International Spectator, International Journal of Consumer Studies, Journal of Marketing Management, and NORA - Nordic Journal of Feminist and Gender Research. I remain dedicated to my research in critical advertising studies, branding, and Turkish cultural studies within the Department of Advertising.
