Figen Algül was born in İstanbul. Through her graduate education in Marmara University Faculty of Communication worked for various TV channels and production offices as correspondent, programme producer and announcer. After she completed her post graduate education in Marmara University, Radio-Television Department, during her doctorate education in the same department, she attended FH Fulda Intercultural Communication and European Studies programme as a guest student in Germany. She obtained her doctorate degree in 2012 with her thesis prepared on the ethnical and minority groups in Turkey over Media Rationality. She has a book called "Community Media - Example of Nor Radio". She studied as the editor for the Turkish translation of the book of Gudykunst, Bridging Differences. She did her Post-Doc at National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Department of Communications and Media Studies with TÜBİTAK Post-Doctoral Research Abroad Scholarship. She works at the Marmara University Faculty of Communications as an Assistant Professor. She works as a researcher in the European Union project named "ERMIScom: Common curricula for diversity: Education in media and integration of vulnerable groups"She speaks Turkish, English and Greek. Media and society, audience research, alternative media, intercultural communication, political communication and collective memory among her areas of study.
