Özet:Coğrafya öğrenmek, hem kişiler hem de milletler açısından oldukça önemlidir. Bunun için coğrafyanın küçük yaşlardan itibaren iyi bir şekilde verilmesi şarttır. Kaliteli bir coğrafya eğitimi sayesinde ülke yönetiminde görev alacak kişilerin, şuurlu olması ve doğru kararlar verebilmesi sağlanmış olur. 1997-1998 eğitim öğretim yılı ile birlikte uygulanmaya başlanan sekiz yıllık kesintisiz eğitim programı çerçevesinde ilkokul ve ortaokul düzeyinde derslerin bütünlüğü amaçlanmıştır. Bu amaca yönelik olarak ilköğretim okullarında okutulan coğrafya konularında bazı değişiklikler yapılmış ve ortaokullarda okutulan coğrafya dersi kaldırılarak Sosyal Bilgiler üniteleri yeniden düzenlenmiştir. Bu çalışmada, Sosyal Bilgiler müfredatında yer alan coğrafya konuları içerik açısından incelenmiştir. İlköğretim kurumlarında okutulan coğrafya konuları ile bunların öğretimi sırasında karşılaşılan problemler tespit edilmeye çalışılmıştır. Bu amaçla Kadıköy, Üsküdar ve Kağıthane ilçelerindeki 15 ilköğretim kurumunda, öğretmen ve öğrencilere anket uygulanmıştır. Son olarak anketten elde edilen sonuçlar ile uygulanmakta olan program karşılaştırılmıştır. ABSTRACT Learning geography is important for both people and nations. Thus geography must be given well from very early ages. Learning geography provides the ability of necessary, conscious decisions for people who will have the jobs leading the country. Without any suspicion, this is only possibly by a reasonable and modern geography education. In the eight year education programme which started by 1997-1998 educational year, the unity of the lesson has been aimed in primary and secondary levels. According to this aim, there have been several changes in the practice of geography education. Due to this the subjects of geography have been prepared in social sciences lessons subjects. In this study, the subjects of geography in the social sciences educational programme were analysed. The matters about teaching of the geography topics in primary schools were fixed and tried to feature the solution of this troubles. There for it has been prepared a survey for the students and teachers in the primary schools around Kadıköy, Üsküdar, Kağıthane. The results were compared with the existing social sciences educational details. Nevertheless some defectiveness of the existing social sciences educational programme were brought up and reflected the ideas which were given by the teachers.
