R.W. ABSTRACT This study aimed to establish a link between gender and mass culture studies in terms of power notion. Mass communication is considered as one of the main manufacturing mechanisms in the formation of gender. Gendered socially and passivation in this process due to mass culture impact is examined in the context of power. R. W. Connell’s study which deals with gender power relations and Judith Butler's theoretical study which reveals the performative nature of gender, constitute the theoretical background of the thesis. By the synthesis of these main studies with mass culture studies, it has been demonstrated that mass culture is an open facility of the performative production of gender and it has a structure that feeds the power. The thesis, which includes concepts such as identity, power, sexual politics, body, constitution and culture industry, has established links between cultural normative discourses and mass culture discourses by associating theory. In this study, which is originated from questioning the phenomenon of power in gender relations, examines the industrialization of the universal dimension of mass culture and the results of its impact on social life, the intersection of mass culture and gender is introduced again in terms of power.
