Some types of mechanisms may not totally meet customer requirements and, furthermore, they might be too complex to manage. So, different type of approaches or techniques is employed to design such kind of mechanisms. This thesis presents a comprehensive design methodology for constructing a height adjustment mechanism concepts for home appliances (especially for refrigerators) to increase comfort level. “The Systematic Design Procedure”, which includes component selection, design and integration, as well as experimental evaluation, is employed to construct a height adjustment mechanism. Systematic design refers to a process of design that looks not only at the problem that needs to be overcome, but also at the surrounding environment, and other systems that are linked to the problem. It tries to eliminate the time required for these processes, and create solutions exhaustively in a systematical manner. Application of this methodology reduces the time required for the development and it can be easily and widely implicated for almost every kind of problems. August, 2011 Seda TURAN
