Özet:VELİLERİN OKUL İMAJINA İLİŞKİN GÖRÜŞLERİNİN İNCELENMESİ Bu çalışmada, velilerin okul imaj algılarının hangi kriterleri içerdiği incelenmiştir. Bu doğrultuda okul imajına ilişkin çeşitli kesimlerden velilerin görüşlerinden yola çıkılarak; velilerin, okula ilişkin imaj faktörlerinden hangilerini dile getirdikleri, velilere göre okulların imajlarını geliştirme ve yönetme sürecinde dikkate alması gereken faktörlerin neler olduğu ve velilerin, okul imajı faktörlerinden özellikle hangilerine odaklandıkları sorularına yanıt aranmıştır. Bu amacı gerçekleştirmek için nitel araştırma yöntemi tercih edilmiş, iki ayrı çalışma grubuyla yüz yüze görüşmeler yapılmış ve sonuçlar içerik analiziyle çözümlenmiştir. Bu analiz bize, velilerin okul imaj algılarının hangi kriterleri içerdiğine dair bir perspektif sunarken, okulların imajlarını geliştirme ve yönetme sürecinde gerek veli görüşlerinin hangi kriterleri içerdiği, gerekse literatürden elde edilen bilgilerin neler olduğuna ilişkin veriler sunmuştur. Görüşmelerden elde edilen bulguların, okul imaj faktörlerine ilişkin öne sürülen iki hipotezi desteklenmemesi üzerine, velilerin okul imajı faktörlerine ilişkin farkındalık ve beklentilerinin düşük olduğu gözlenmiştir. Yine elde edilen bulgular doğrultusunda velilerin imaj faktörlerinden özellikle “fiziki koşullar” ve akademik başarıyı içeren “kalite faktörü”ne odaklandıkları tespit edilmiştir. Sonuç olarak bir öğretim liderinin okulu yönetirken okulun imajını da iyi yönetmesi gerektiği sonucuna ulaşılmış, hatta okul yöneticisinin sorumluluk alanlarından birinin de okulun imaj yönetimi olduğu ileri sürülmüş, bu konuda neler yapabileceğine ilişkin bir bakış açısı sunulmuştur. Dolayısıyla, hem velilerin konuya ilişkin bilinçlilik düzeylerini destekleyeceğine inanılan bulgular elde edilmiş, hem de okulların, imajlarını oluşturmak ve geliştirmek için hangi kriterleri göz önüne alarak çalışabileceklerine ilişkin bir program taslağı önerisinde bulunulmuştur. ABSTRACT INVESTIGETING PARENTS’ PERCEPTIONS ABOUT SCHOOL IMAGE This study investigates the criteria applied by the parents when perceiving schools’ images. In this context, the opinions of parents from various milieus concerning schools’ images was laid the foundations when searching for answers for the following questions: Which image factors about the schools are articulated? According to parents, which factors should be taken into consideration when school images are in the process of being improved and managed? Which school image factors are especially focused upon by the parents? In order to achieve the goal, qualitative analysis method was employed; two different work groups were interviewed face-to-face and the results were then subjected to content analysis. This analysis was given us on the one hand a perspective on the criteria applied by the parents when perceiving schools’ images and was presented us on the other hand with data on criteria according to the parents’ opinions and information derived from available literature, throughout improvement and management process of school images. The interviews not supported the two initial hypotheses about school image factors, and therefore it was observed that the parents low awareness and expectations concerning school images. The results also showed that the parents focus especially on “physical conditions” and “quality factor”-which consists of academic success. Results indicated that a leader of a teaching institution should manage the school and the image of the school simultaneously, and that image management would be considered one of the responsibilities of the school management. An overview about what could be done in this area is has been provided. As a result, some findings which are believed to support the parents’ consciousness were obtained and at the same time a program outline about the criteria to be observed when schools work on constructing and improving their images proposed.
