-------------------- At the beginning of the XVth century, Ottoman territory had witnessed a series of political and social events. Ankara War (1402), Timur’s invasion of Anatolia (1402-1403), throne struggle between the sons of Yıldırım Beyazıt(interregnum, 1402-1413), power struggle of the successors of the prior Anatolian Beyliks against the Ottomans, in Rumeli the rebellion of Sheikh Bedrettin’s rebellion and in Western Anatolia the rebellions of Borkluce Mustafa and Torlak Kemal had occurred. These developments and the state of war related to these developments had a negative impact on the economic and social life in the Ottoman Empire. As the economic and social discontent deepened, the reactions from the various segments of the society increased. One of the most important events resulted from these reactions in the Ottoman territory was the rebellion of Borkluce Mustafa. This study aims to explain essentially the changes in the economic and social life and the tensions in the Western Anatolia where the rebellion took place, besides addressing the intellectual and ideological content and the social support on which Borkluce Mustafa’s uprising based.
