Bu tezin amacı, bölgesel bir sorundan uluslararası bir krize dönüşen Kırım’ın Rusya Federasyonu tarafından ilhakı sürecinde ve sonrasında yeni bir boyut kazanan Rusya- İngiltere ilişkilerini(2014-2016) tarihsel perspektif ışığında yeniden ele almaktır. Bu bağlamda, çalışmanın odaklandığı temel araştırma sorusu şu şekilde ifade edilebilir: Kırım’ın Rusya Federasyonu tarafından tek taraflı ilhakı sonrası geleneksel Rusya-İngiltere ilişkileri ne derece etkilenmiştir? Nitekim, yaklaşık 500 yıllık geçmişe sahip İngiltere-Rusya Federasyonu ilişkileri, dönemsel olarak süreklilik arz etse de, özünde inişli çıkışlı bir seyirde ilerlemiştir. Bu inişli çıkışlı ilişkilerin seyrini ise küresel politikada yaşanan kırılmalar belirlemiştir. Öyle ki, I. ve II. Dünya Savaşında itilaf devletleri sıfatıyla aynı tarafta yer almalarına karşın, Soğuk Savaş boyunca İngiltere’nin Amerika Birleşik Devletleri ile münhasır ilişki kurması ilişkilerin boyutunu menfi yönde etkilemiştir. Aynı şekilde, Soğuk Savaş’ın hemen akabinde, ilişkiler müsbet bir çerçeveye otursa da, 2000’li yıllardan sonra yeniden gerginleşmiştir. Son olarak ise, Kırım’ın Rusya Federasyonu tarafından ilhakı sonrası iki ülke ilişkileri, geçmiş yıllardaki tarihsel kırılmalardan özgün şekilde mevcut fay hatlarının daha da derinleştiği bir boyuta evrilmiştir.

 

Bu araştırma, üç bölümden oluşmaktadır. Araştırmanın birinci bölümünde, Kırım Yarımadasının tarihi genel hatlarıyla anlatılmıştır. İkinci bölümde, Rusya-İngiltere ilişkilerinin başlangıç tarihi olan 1553’ten SSCB’nin dağılmasına kadarki dönem irdelenmiş ve iki ülke ilişkilerinin inişli çıkışlı dönemleri anlatılmıştır. Üçüncü bölümde ise, Kırım Yarımadasının Rusya Federasyonu için önemi, krize yol açan sebepler, Mart 2014’te yaşanan Kırım Krizi ve Rusya’nın Kırım’ı ilhakı tarihsel kronoloji takip edilerek açıklanmıştır. Son tahlilde ise, Kırım’ın ilhak edildiği Mart 2014’ten, 2016 yılının sonuna kadarki dönemde Rusya-İngiltere ilişkilerinin seyri ele alınmıştır.

RUSSIA-UK RELATIONS DURING the annexatıon of crımea (2014-2016)

The main aim of this thesis is to scrutinize Russia- the UK relations (2014-2016) from the lenses of historical perspective, which has evolved into a novel dimension during and the afterwards of Crimea’s annexation by the Russian Federation. In this context, the basic research question that this thesis seeks for answer can be expressed as follows: To what extent and degree, the traditional Russia- the UK relations have been influenced from the annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation? As a matter of fact, though the existence of deep-rooted historical relations between Russia- the UK were based on persistence, it has substantially continued in a fluctuating way. No doubt that the frame of these up-and-down relations has been shaped by the historical events took place in global politics. That is to say, while they were on the same camp, known as the Axis, during World War I and II, however, their mutual relations have adversely influenced because of the Britain's exclusive relationship with the United States in the time of the Cold War. Likewise, in the aftermath of the Cold War, the relations have gained a new momentum, yet it has once again turn into tense process in 2000s. Finally, after the annexation of the Crimea by the Russian Federation, the relations of the both countries have evolved a distinctive dimension that has deepened existing fault-line which is rather different from the historical instances.

 

This research consists of three components. In the first part of the study, the history of the Crimean peninsula is explained within a general frame. In the second part, Russia- the UK relations are examined from the period of 1553- the initial date of starting official relationship- to the dissolution of the USSR. In the third chapter, the significance of Crimean Peninsula’ to the Russian Federation, fundamental reasons that led to global crises in Crimea, the Crimean Crisis in March 2014 and the annexation of Crimea by Russian Federations are explained within a  chronological sequences. In the last analysis, the continuum of Russia- the UK relations are covered from March 2014, the date of Crimea’s annexation, to late of 2016.
