Özet:Modern eğitim anlayışı, bilim ve teknolojide yaşanan gelişmelerin etkisiyle büyük değişimlere uğramıştır. Bilgi teknolojileri aracılığıyla, bilgiye kolaylıkla ulaşabilen bireyler için bilgiyi akılda tutmanın eskisi kadar önemi kalmamıştır. Bunun yerine sınırsız bilgi arasından, önemli ve önemsiz bilgiyi ayırt edebilmeye, bilgiyi doğru ve etkili bir şekilde kullanabilmeye, elde edilen bilgileri eleştirel bir gözle değerlendirebilmeye yönelik beceriler ön plana çıkmıştır. Kısacası insanların artık öğrenmesine değil, öğrenmeyi öğrenme becerisini kazanmış olmasına önem verilmektedir. Bilgi ve beceriye beraberce önem verilen bu yeni eğitim anlayışının etkileri, ülkemizde 2005 yılından itibaren yapılandırmacı eğitim anlayışı doğrultusunda hazırlanan eğitim programlarında görülmektedir. Bu eğitim anlayışında öğrencilerin eleştirel düşünme, problem çözme, farklılıklara / farklı görüşlere saygı duyma, insanlarla etkili iletişim ve empati kurabilme gibi beceriler kazanmasına önem verilmektedir. Bu becerileri kazanan öğrencilerin, geleceğin etkin vatandaşlarını oluşturmaları umulmaktadır. Öğrenme ortamlarının, bu becerilerin kazanılmasını teşvik edici nitelikte olması da önem arz etmektedir. Sosyal Bilgiler dersinde, böyle bir öğrenme ortamının oluşturulmasında, gazete haberlerinden yararlanılabilir. Gazete haberleri temelinde hazırlanan etkinlikler, öğrencileri, güncel konular hakkında düşünmeye sevk ederek, inceledikleri olaylar / olguları analiz etmeye, gazete haberlerindeki kişilerle / durumlarla empati kurmaya, farklılıkların / farklı bakış açılarının bilincine varmaya ve kendi özgün bakış açılarını / fikirlerini geliştirmeye yönlendirebilir. Gazete haberleri aracılığıyla, günlük hayattan tartışmalı konularla karşı karşıya kalan öğrencilerin toplumsal problemlere duyduğu ilgi artmakta, toplumsal problemlerin çözümü için gösterilen düşünsel çaba, öğrencilerde problem çözme ve sorumluluk alma becerilerinin gelişimine katkılar sunmaktadır. Bu araştırmada, verilen gerekçeler doğrultusunda Sosyal Bilgiler dersi öğrenme ortamlarında, görsel ve yazılı unsurlar açısından zengin gazete haberlerinin kullanıldığı öğretim etkinliklerinin tasarlanması, uygulanması ve uygulamanın etkililiğinin değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu temel amaca yönelik olarak, araştırmada aşağıdaki sorulara yanıt aranmıştır: 1. Sosyal Bilgiler öğretim programlarında ve ders kitaplarında gazete haberlerinin kullanımının niteliği ve niceliği nasıldır? 2. Sosyal Bilgiler öğretmenlerinin derslerinde gazete haberlerinin kullanımına ilişkin görüşleri nasıldır? 3. Sosyal Bilgiler dersi öğrenme ortamlarında gazete haberleri kullanımına ilişkin öğrenme süreci ile etkinliklerin nitelikleri nasıldır? 4. Öğrencilerin Sosyal Bilgiler dersi öğrenme ortamlarında gazete haberlerinin kullanımına ilişkin algıları araştırma öncesi ve sonrası nasıldır? 5. Sosyal Bilgiler derslerinde gazete kullanım sürecine ilişkin öğrencilerin ve araştırmacının / öğretmenin görüşleri nasıldır? 6. Gazete haberlerinin kullanımına ilişkin sınıf içindeki öğrenme süreçlerinde öğrencilerin katılma(ma), görecelilik, empati ve başka fikirlere saygıya ilişkin durumları nasıldır? Bu araştırmada, yeni bir öğretim uygulamasının etkileri araştırıldığından, nitel araştırma desenlerinden eylem araştırması kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu 2016-2017 eğitim öğretim yılında İstanbul ili Avrupa yakasındaki bir devlet okulunda 6. sınıfa devam eden 31 öğrenci oluşturmuştur. Araştırmanın uygulayıcısı aynı zamanda araştırmacı olan öğretmendir. Araştırmanın veri toplama araçları olarak öğrenci ön ve son algı anketi, öğretmen algı anketi, ders kitabı incelemesi, çalışma yaprakları ve rubrikler, öğrenci ve araştırmacı günlükleri ve kamera kayıtları kullanılmıştır. Veri toplama araçlarından elde edilen veriler içerik analizi yoluyla değerlendirilmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda, gazete haberlerinin kullanıldığı dersler hakkında öğrencilerin olumlu düşüncelere ve tutuma sahip olduğu, konuların öğrenciler tarafından daha iyi anlaşıldığı, derslerde etkin katılım düzeyinin yükseldiği, öğrenilenlerin kalıcılığının yüksek olduğu ve öğrenilen bilgi / becerilerin günlük yaşama aktarıldığı tespit edilmiştir. Araştırma sonrasında, gazete haberlerinin Sosyal Bilgiler dersinde kullanılabilirliği hakkında öğrenci görüşlerinde olumlu değişimler gözlenirken, gazete haberlerinin kullanıldığı öğrenme ortamlarında öğrencilerin farklılıklara / farklı fikirlere saygı, empati ile ilişkilendirilebilecek cümlelerinde ve kendi özgün fikirlerini oluşturma / bu fikirleri savunma durumlarında anlamlı sonuçlar bulunmuştur. -------------------- The modern educational approach has undergone major changes due to the developments in science and technology. Keeping information in mind through information technologies is of no importance for the individuals who can easily access information. Instead, it was aimed to distinguish between important and insignificant information, to use knowledge correctly and effectively, and to critically evaluate the information obtained. In short, people are no longer learning, but learning to learn to gain the importance of learning. The effects of this new education concept, which is given importance to knowledge and skills, are seen in educational programs prepared in line with constructivist education approach in our country since 2005. In this education, students are encouraged to gain critical skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, respect for differences / different views, effective communication with people and empathy. It is hoped that the students who acquire these skills will form the active citizens of the future. It is also important that learning environments encourage the acquisition of these skills. In the Social Studies course, newspaper news can be used to create such a learning environment. Events prepared on the basis of newspaper news may encourage the students to think about current issues, to analyze the events / phenomena they are studying, to empathize with people in the newspaper news, to become aware of the differences / different perspectives and to develop their own original perspectives. Through the newspaper news, the interest of students who face controversial subjects from daily life to social problems increases, and the intellectual effort shown to solve social problems contributes to the development of problem solving and responsibility-taking skills in students. In this research, it is aimed to design and implement the teaching activities in the Social Studies course learning environments, which are rich in visual and written elements, and to evaluate the effectiveness of the application. For this purpose, the following questions were searched: 1. What is the quality and quantity of the use of newspaper news in social studies curriculum and textbooks? 2. What is the opinion of social studies teachers about the use of newspaper news in their classes? 3. What is the learning process and the quality of activities related to the use of newspaper news in social studies learning environments? 4. What are the students' perceptions about the use of newspaper news in the Social Studies course learning environments before and after the research? 5. What is the opinion of the students and the researcher / teacher about the process of newspaper use in Social Studies classes? 6. What are the situations of students' participation, relativity, empathy, and respect for other ideas in the learning processes within the classroom regarding the use of newspaper news? In this research, as the effects of a new teaching practice were investigated, action research was used from qualitative research designs. The study group consisted of 31 students attending 6th grade in a public school in European side of Istanbul in 2016-2017 academic year. The researcher is also the teacher who is the researcher. As the data collection tools of the study, pre and post perception questionnaire, teacher perception questionnaire, textbook analysis, work sheets and rubrics, student and researcher diaries and camera records were used. Data obtained from data collection tools were evaluated by content analysis. As a result of the research, it was determined that the students had positive thoughts and attitudes about the courses where the newspaper news were used, the subjects were better understood by the students, the level of active participation in the lessons increased, the persistence of the learned ones was high and the knowledge / skills learned were transferred to daily life. After the study, there were positive changes in student views about the usability of newspaper news in Social Studies course, meaningful results were found in the learning environments where newspaper reports were used, in respect of differences / expressions of different ideas, in sentences that could be associated with empathy, and in creating / defending their own original ideas.
