Özet:Bireyi hayata hazırlayan ve yaşadığı toplumun değerlerini öğretmede Sosyal Bilgiler önemli bir işleve sahiptir. Sosyal Bilgiler öğretim programı birbirinden farklı disiplinleri içerisinde barından bir yapıya sahiptir. Sosyal Bilgiler öğretim programı içerisinde yer alan disiplinlerden bir tanesi de coğrafyadır. Sosyal Bilgiler öğretim programında doğrudan verilmemiş olsada öğretim programında yer alan öğrenme alanları temelinde belli disiplinler etrafında şekillenmiştir. Bu bu öğrenme alanlarından özellikle ‘‘İnsanlar, Yerler ve Çevreler’’ alanı coğrafya ağırlıklıdır. Uygulamada ‘’İnsanlar, Yerler ve Çevreler’’ öğrenme alanında yer alan kazanımlara ilişkin öğretim programında sunulan becerilerin geliştirilmesi ve geliştirilen uygulamaların öğrencilerin akademik başarılarısına etkisini belirlemek hedeflenmiştir. Öğretim programında yer alan becerilerin öğrencilere kazandırılması amacıyla hazırlanan etkinlikler öğrencilerin konuyu anlamasını sağlamak ve verilen beceriler arasındaki bağlantıların ortaya konulması amaçlanmıştır. Bu amaçla aşağıdaki sorulara cevap aranmıştır. 1. Uygulama öncesi öğrencilerin coğrafi becerileri kullanma düzeyleri nasıldır? 2. Sosyal Bilgiler dersinde yer alan coğrafi beceriler öğrencilere etkin bir şekilde nasıl kazandırılabilir? 3. Uygulama öncesi ve sonrasında öğrencilerin coğrafi becerileri kullanma düzeylerinde nasıl bir değişiklik (olumlu ya da olumsuz) ortaya çıkmıştır? 4. Coğrafi becerileri etkin bir şekilde kullanmanın öğrencilerin Sosyal Bilgiler dersi başarı düzeylerine etkisi nedir? Ortaokul 5.sınıf on altı öğrenci ile yapılan uygulamada eylem araştırması kullanılmıştır. Etkinlikler nitel ve nicel veri toplama yöntemlerine göre analiz edilmiştir. Uygulama sonucunda öğrencilerin coğrafi becerileri geliştirme uygulamalarının Sosyal Bilgiler dersine ilişkin akademik başarılarının artırdığı sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. -------------------- Social studies have a significant function in terms of preparing the individual to life and teaching the values of the society thereto. Social studies teaching program has a structure comprising different disciplines within itself. Geography is one of the disciplines within the social studies curriculum. Much as they are not directly given in the social studies curriculum, they are shaped around specific disciplines on the basis of learning areas in the curriculum. Area of “People, Places and Environments” especially among these learning areas is mainly based on geography. In the application it is aimed to develop skills presented in the curriculum as to achievements in the field of “People, Places and Environments” learning area and determine the effect of developed applications on students&; success and its relation on their academic success. Activities prepared with the purpose of making the students acquire the skills in the curriculum target that the students understand the subject and reveal the connections between the given skills. Answers to following questions were sought to this end: 1. How were the students’ levels of using geographic skills before application? 2. How can the students be made to acquire geographic skills provided in the Social Studies lesson effectively? 3. What kind of change (positive or negative) has occurred in students’ levels of using geographical skills before and after the application? 4. What is the effect of students’ using geographic skills effectively on their success levels of Social Studies lesson? In the application made with sixteen students, action research was used. Secondary school 5th grade. Activities were analyzed in accordance with qualitative and quantitative data collection methods. It was concluded that the applications towards the development of geographical skills increased academic achievement against Social Studies course.
