Özet:

-------------------- The Effect of Different Materials Used in Episiotomy Education on the Skills of Midwifery Students Student’s Name: Begüm ASLAN Consultant: Assoc. Prof. Meltem DEMİRGÖZ BAL Department: Midwifery 2. SUMMARY Objective: The aim of the study was to evaluate the midwifery students' ability to apply the episiotomy procedure stages (pre-procedure, intra-procedure and post-procedure) of different materials used in episiotomy education, the degree of application difficulty of the material used, and self-confidence status before clinical practice. Materials and Methods: The study is a comparative descriptive study conducted with midwifery students at the midwifery department of Marmara University Faculty of Health Sciences between April 2019 and May 2019. In the study conducted with 36 students, the data were collected with the Introductory Information Form prepared by the researcher and VAS. All students participated in the study performed episiotomy on the sponge, model, chicken breast and beef tongue in the order determined. Application examples were evaluated by the two experts. Results: In the study, the material that the students had the most difficulty during the application was determined as sponge and the least difficult material was chicken breast (p <0,05). According to episiotomy suture criteria, chicken breast was the most highly rated material in expert evaluations (p <0.05). It was found that there was no difference between the stages of the episiotomy procedure and the materials used to evaluate the students' self-confidence (p >0.05). Conculision: The best material for episiotomy was determined as chicken breast for experts and students.
