Özet:

Aim: The aim of this study is to determine the volume changes associated with facial swelling following orthognathic surgery and to evaluate how facial swelling is changing-decreasing over a 6-month period in different areas of the face. Materials and Methods: This retrospective study was performed on 3D stereophotogrammetric images of skeletal Class 3 patients who had underwent bimaxillary orthognathic surgery (maxillary Le Fort I type osteotomy combined with mandibular bilateral sagittal split osteotomy). Images have been taken with 3dMDface System (Atlanta, GA, USA). Three dimensional images were acquired 8 times for each patient in the following time intervals; Before surgery (T00), 1 week after surgery (T0), 1 month after surgery (T1), 2 months after surgery (T2), 3 months after surgery (T3), 4 months after surgery (T4), 5 months after surgery (T5) and 6 months after surgery (T6). Soft tissue parameters were measured by using Mimics 20.0 software launched by Materialise (Materialise Europe, World Headquarters, Leuven, Belgium). Results and Conclusion: According to the results of this study most of the post-orthognathic surgical swelling occurs in the mandibular angle and ramus, the cheek and the chin. A substantial amount of swelling (around 45%) subsides within 1 month after surgery, with a 90% resolution in 4 months.
