INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS OF NEWSEARCHES IN MULTIDISCIPLINARY STUDIES, İstanbul, Turkey, 14 - 15 June 2025, pp.30, (Summary Text)
Global warming, climate change, and environmental pollution are among today’s most serious globalchallenges, and the rapid depletion of fossil fuels along with the environmental impacts of chemicalsderived from these fuels have made the use of natural and sustainable resources imperative. In thiscontext, bio-based polyurethanes represent promising eco-friendly alternatives capable of replacingpetroleum-derived polyurethanes. Owing to their superior properties such as flexibility, durability, andchemical resistance, polyurethanes find broad application across various industries. In this study, prepolymers were synthesized using vegetable oil–derived bio-based polyols and petrochemicalisocyanates, and these prepolymers were subsequently modified with bio-based chain extenders. Byvarying the proportions of polyol, isocyanate, and chain extender, the effects of these components onthe mechanical and thermal properties of the resulting polyurethane films were investigated. Theprimary objective of this work is to synthesize high bio-content polyurethane films, to perform a detailedstructural characterization, and to evaluate their potential for industrial applications. Additionally, theperformance of the bio-based films was compared with that of conventional petroleum-basedpolyurethanes.
