Özet

The worldwide transition from a traditional to a Western-like lifestyle and nutrion habit caused the progression of metabolic syndrome (MetS) and now it is considered as a worldwide epidemic disease affecting public health. Recent studies on MetS and its sequelae increased the awareness of MetS on benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and lower urinary tract symptoms. In this review, we discussed the definition of MetS, the possible steps in pathogenesis of BPH and the effect of MetS on BPH pathogenesis. Finally, we introduce recent animal and clinical studies that are reported the effects of MetS on BPH and BPH treatment.
