The Impact of the Sovereign Debt Crisis on the Efficiency of Foreign Banks in Turkey

Özet
The aim of this paper is to investigate
the impact of Euro-zone sovereign debt crisis on the efficiency of foreign
banks in Turkey. Results of the maximum likelihood estimates of the stochastic
frontier production and cost functions illustrate that except one bank with
capital from one of the GIIPS countries, the efficiencies of foreign banks have
not been affected from the sovereign debt crisis. Results suggest that if the
banking industry is strong in a country than the effects of crises do not have
considerable impact on the banking sector in general, foreign banks in particular.
