Özet

The eighteenth century is the years when the Western influences began to be seen intensely in Turkish decorative arts. The western influences was first manifested in the decorative arts. New ways are sought without abandoning the aesthetics of the classical Ottoman style and its own taste. It is seen that the Baroque and Rococo characteristics are applied to Ottoman design patterns and these styles became widespread. This new style, which has been adopted and called Turkish Rococo, has a more plain and pleasant appearance compared to its European counterparts. Although Western sources played an important role in this, similar motifs that already existed in its structure became a facilitating factor in the acceptance and application of this style. The classical style of the seventeenth century was continued in the manuscripts by partially preserving its colours, patterns and motifs. The page layout, illuminated fields and pattern style of the Holy Qur'an carry on the characteristics of the classical period. In the following years, when the effects of Western art were felt more strongly, new forms joined alongside the traditional elements. The primary example include single flower buds and bunches of flowers tied with a naturalist style ribbon, which gained volume by dyeing in shades. The folds of the ribbon to which the bouquets are tied, the processing of the stem, and the leaves of the flowers according to C and S shapes show the Baroque and Rococo style characteristics.
The aim of this study to examine and evaluate the reflections of the Western influences in the eighteenth century Ottoman illumination art on the Holy Qur'an copies.
