The purpose of this study is to design and develop an innovative augmented reality (AR) platform that will contribute to the development of literacy skills, language acquisition levels, and mathematical skills by learning the letters, numbers, and words of individuals aged three years and over. For this purpose, it was aimed to create a learning material that enables a self-directed learning of the individuals and also to have fun during the learning process.
During the material development process, the steps of design-based research methodology were followed. In this direction, firstly education need analysis was carried out and the equivalent products in the market were examined. It was then decided that the cognitive information to be presented for the learning of individuals with different learning styles would be presented auditory and visually. It has been decided that learners should be able to actively research, discover, practice and iteration in order to increase their learning outcomes in the context of the constructivist paradigm. In order to support social learning as another component of the constructivism, it has been determined that the developed learning material should be used individually and collaboratively. The learning scenario of the developed material has been determined in line with design principles was prepared by the instructional designers and evaluated repetitively under the supervision of the pedagogue. Then, The project team -ID, pedagogue, 3D designers and coders- worked cooperatively in order to develop instructional design material. In this process, the cyclic process, which includes the stages of testing, evaluation, and revision of the developed material, continued until the final product was obtained.
At the end of the project process, an innovative AR learning material has been designed and developed in accordance with instructional design principles. Thanks to Kartoon3D, learners can learn the letters, numbers, four transactions and 754 words as English, German and Turkish.
