EFFECT OF SUSPENSION SYSTEM EXERCISES ON PAIN AND LIFE QUALITY IN PATIENTS WITH CHRONIC NECK PAIN: A PILOT STUDY

aisa.sed@gmail.com Abstract:  Purpose: In recent years, the use of assistive system execises in pain management has become widespread in rehabilitation programs. This study was carried out to investigate the effect of suspension system exercises on pain and quality of life in patients with chronic neck pain (CNP).  Methods: A total of 17 patients (13 female, 4 male) aged between 34 and 62 years were randomly assigned to the Suspension System Group and the Control Group. Both groups had hot pack, classical massage, manual therapy, posture and neck exercises, home exercise program and lifestyle recommendations during 3 weeks. In addition to the Suspension System Group, cervical exercises and manual therapy were applied in partial suspension on  Levitas device at each treatment session . Pain assessment was assessed by Visual Analog Scale (VAS) for rest, activity, practice and night time. Quality of life was assessed by Short Form-36 (SF-36) at the beginning and end of treatment. Results: Pain and quality of life were improved in both groups after the treatment program (p <0.05). Statistically significant differences were found in the suspension therapy group compared to the control group, in evaluating the difference of  VAS and SF-36 scores between the groups (p<0.05). Conclusions: In conclusion, we think that both methods are effective in improving the pain intensity and quality of life of patients with CNP and addition of suspension system exercises to the treatment program provides an additional contribution to treatment.
