Bu çalışma iç mekânın bağımsız bir şekilde gelişen kimliğine odaklanarak, içmimarlığa çağdaş bir yaklaşım olan interiority kavramını değerlendirmektedir. Geleneksel yaklaşımlardan ayrışan bu kavram, bireyin içsel dünyasını merkeze alan ve soyut yapısına rağmen somut mekânsal karşılıklar üretebilen bir anlayışı temsil eder. Çalışmada, içmimarlık disiplininin günümüzdeki konumunu ve çağdaş kavramlarını kavrayabilmek adına tarihsel bir çerçeve sunulmuş; mesleğin evrimi iç dekorasyon, iç mekân tasarımı ve içmimarlık kavramları ekseninde karşılaştırmalı olarak incelenmiştir. Güncel içmimarlık pratikleri üzerinden interiority kavramının mesleki yapıyı nasıl dönüştürdüğü tartışılmış ve bu içsel mekân anlayışının içmimarlığın potansiyelini keşfetmede bütüncül bir perspektif sunduğu ortaya konmuştur. İç mekân yalnızca fiziksel değil, duygusal, kültürel ve sembolik boyutlarıyla da ele alınmış; kavramın mesleğin kuramsal ve uygulamalı yönlerini zenginleştirerek iç mekâna dair daha derin bir kavrayış sağladığı vurgulanmıştır. İnsanı merkeze alan bu düşünsel yapı ve gelişen yeni tasarım yaklaşımlarının, günümüz içmimarlık anlayışında önemli bir yer edindiği ve mesleği yeni bir temsil düzeyine taşıdığı görülmektedir.
The present study focuses on the independently developing identity of the interior space. It evaluates the concept of interiority, a contemporary approach to interior architecture. This concept diverges from conventional approaches by emphasizing an understanding that focuses on the inner world of the individual. Despite its abstract nature, it can yield concrete spatial responses. The present study utilizes a historical framework to facilitate comprehension of the contemporary status and conceptual underpinnings of the discipline of interior architecture. A comparative examination of the evolution of the profession is conducted along the axes of interior decoration, interior design, and interior architecture. The discussion herein explores the manner in which the concept of interiority has transformed the professional structure through current interior architecture practices. It is revealed that this understanding of interior space offers a holistic perspective in exploring the potential of interior architecture. The discussion of interior space encompasses not only its physical dimensions, but also its emotional, cultural, and symbolic dimensions. It is emphasized that the concept enhances the theoretical and practical aspects of the profession, thereby providing a more profound understanding of interior space. It is evident that this human-centered intellectual structure and novel design approaches have assumed a pivotal role in contemporary interior architecture, propelling the profession to new heights of representation.
