This study draws on Castells' concept of mass self-communication and Toffler's concept of producer -consumer to examine how the video-sharing application YouTube has gradually turned the YouTuber into a profession. The study begins with a theoretical treatment of the new social structure created by tech-nological developments and the information revolution. Then, it briefly analyses the history of the inter -net, the development of social media, and the process whereby social sharing has turned into a money economy. Using a qualitative-descriptive analytic approach with a human focus, it traces the profession-alisation of the YouTuber through the channels of PewDiePie and Enes Batur. This study concludes that YouTubers can be considered an important sign of postmodern society.
