Özet

The mapping of crime has evolved and developed over the years in parallel with advancements in technology, exhibiting significant effectiveness in supporting crime prevention efforts. Crime mapping is predicted to evolve and increase further in effectiveness by encompassing not only advancements in geographical information technologies but also incorporating state-of-the-art in terms of advances in big data and artificial intelligence. In this chapter the opportunities for interactive crime mapping have been explored through the utilization of large data sets obtained from social media, mainly focusing on analysing this data using artificial intelligence applications, such as natural language processing. This new approach aims to add to the analytic toolkit available to aid crime prevention by facilitating the analysis of a large volume of data and enabling near real-time applicability in crime mapping with the assistance of cloud technologies.
