Abstract

This study investigated the views of computer users about pirated software in Turkey. Face to face interviews were conducted and a web site was designed to collect the data through a form. Data were collected by using the Pirated Software Behavior Questionnaire which was developed by the researchers. 794 computer users completed the questionnaire and chi-square test was used to specify the dependency between independent variables and views of users about pirated software. At the end of the study, suggestions were given. It is hoped that such studies help the society become conscious about pirated software. Some of the suggestions are preparing educational broadcasts for young people; integrating ethics across the entire college curriculum, and teaching ethical and moral issues in higher schools.
