In this engaging book, Natalia Królikowska-Jedlińska provides an eye-opening view of the internal organisation of the Crimean Khanate: its power structure, institutions and legal regime. She explores the judicial position of the khan in relation to his subjects through the lens of the khanate’s legal foundations in the period 1532–1774, focusing on Murad Giray (r. 1678–83) and the court registers during his reign.
