16th International The Recent Progress Symposium on Textile Technology and Chemistry, Bursa, Türkiye, 4 - 06 Mayıs 2017
Mercerization process is an important pre-treatment process in the textile industry, which is applied to
cotton and cotton blends. This process enhances the properties of the textile material, such as dye
uptake, fabric handle, dimentional stability, tensile strength and lustre. The most important
environmental impact of the mercerization process is weak caustic which is the effluent of the process.
In this work, information on the optimum operational conditions and benefits of a multiple-effect
evaporator system which is used to recover caustic soda from the effluent of mercerization process are
given.
