Özet

Research on healthy city evaluation has grown significantly, yet disparities exist in the conception and scope, applications under diverse urban contexts, and evolving priorities of the key themes; which have hindered broader applicability and cross-regional comparison. Based on an in-depth analysis of 250 international journal articles published between 1986 and 2024, this paper presents a comprehensive review of healthy city evaluation research, for which the development trajectory, temporal evolution, and spatial distribution features are discussed critically, and future research agenda of four components are proposed. Specifically, four development stages were identified to present the evolving dynamics of healthy city evaluation research: Stage I (1986–1991) of Initial exploration; Stage II (1992–2005) of Slow growth and sporadic interest; Stage III (2006–2019) of Expansion and consolidation; and Stage IV (2020–2024) of Post-Pandemic Surge. Key research hotspots and mainstream research methods of each development stages, as well as the evolving trajectories between different development stages were unravelled and discussed. Spatially, via the lens of disparity, the characteristics of healthy city evaluation frameworks between the developed and developing countries were comparatively discussed; and the opportunities for cross-region knowledge exchange and experience sharing are highlighted. On the basis of above analysis, future research agenda of healthy city evaluation research was proposed, including four inter-connected components of conception, indicators, methodology, and governance.
