Adolescence is a critical period in which identity formation is experienced and physical, mental and emotional changes are intense. During this period, violence and bullying behaviors are frequently seen and negatively affect the mental and physical health of young people. According to the World Health Organization, violence is the intentional use of force against oneself, another person or a group and can cause injury, death or psychological harm. Bullying, on the other hand, is the intentional, repeated and systematic behavior of the powerful among people with a power imbalance to harm or intimidate. Bullying is a continuous and specific form of violence. Many young people around the world and in Turkey are exposed to bullying. Bullying causes short-term and long-term negative consequences such as depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, social isolation and academic failure. Risk factors vary at the individual, family and societal levels. Interdisciplinary approaches, educational programs, legal regulations and social awareness should be increased to prevent violence and bullying.
