The electrical conductivity, optical and thermal properties of newly synthesized N-[5-methy1-l,3,4-tiyodiazole-2-yl] ditiyocarbamate compound have been investigated. In order to find an explanation for the conduction mechanism, different conduction models were tested. The best fit of the experimental conductivity data of the compound was obtained with theoretical prediction and it is found that while the conduction mechanism at lower temperatures corresponds to three-dimensional hopping conduction, the conduction mechanism at higher temperatures corresponds to hopping of thermally activated carriers into the band tails. The optical band gap of the compound was determined by means of the optical absorption spectra. Thermal properties and kinetic parameters such as activation energy, entropy and enthalpy based on thermogravimetric data were also determined. © 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
