Özet

Climate change has been a major problem all over the world with distinct impacts. Increasing frequency of heavy rainfalls and droughts, elevation of sea level and heat waves due to rising average temperature, and more common observation of natural disasters such as fires or hurricanes are the well-known consequences of climate change. Coastal cities are expected to be affected more and become more vulnerable, especially due to the fact that they have already been facing increases in sea levels, floods, and heat island effects. Nature-based Solutions offered for sustainable management or restoration of ecosystems to reduce risks associated with climate change, disasters, food-water security, and biodiversity loss could be beneficial to mitigate impacts of climate change in coastal cities. This chapter summarizes how climate change threatens coastal cities and how nature-based solutions can help to decrease vulnerability of coastal cities.
