Özet
The use of bio-based renewable feedstock to develop alternative polymers for petroleum-derived products is gaining considerable interest as a sustainable approach to reducing reliance on fossil resources and mitigating environmental impacts. Herein, we prepared castor oil-based polyurethane networks using a bio-based trifunctional isocyanate to increase the bio-based content. Next, we synthesized a phosphorus-modified eugenol dimer compound (BED) and further functionalized it with thioglycerol to obtain a bio-based multifunctional polyol (BEDTG). BEDTG was blended with castor oil-based polyurethane networks at different ratios. The addition of BEDTG improved the thermal stability, mechanical properties, and flame resistance of the polyurethanes, but resulted in more hydrophilic surfaces and slightly higher water absorption percentages. The glass transition temperatures of the networks were found to be between −29 °C and −6 °C. Finally, the BEDTG-containing films exhibited antioxidant activity. Overall, the obtained polyurethanes exhibited high bio-based contents (80.7% to 89.0%) and have the potential to be used as bio-based coatings or artificial leather.
