Özet

Aim: In this study, we examined the possible relationship between the sociodemographic characteristics of individuals aged 60 and over and the Successful Aging Scale. We aimed to guide patients and contribute to the literature by investigating the factors affecting healthy and successful aging. Methods: The material of our cross-sectional study consists of 300 patients aged 60 and over who applied to the Haydarpasa Numune Training and Research Hospital between January 3, 2019 and May 30, 2019. A 21-question form was used in which demographic information was questioned, and the Successful Aging Scale was administered through face-to-face interviews. Participants were evaluated under two sub-headings in accordance with the Successful Aging Scale, and the results were compared with their demographic characteristics. In the analysis of the data, the statistical significance level was taken as p<0.05. Results: While the duration of the current diabetes disease increases with a healthy lifestyle, the long duration of smoking decreases it. Male gender, high education level, retirement, high personal income, regular exercise, quitting alcohol, and smoking positively affect the value of a healthy lifestyle. Being busy with a hobby increases the success of dealing with problems. Conclusion: Some personal variables of older individuals can affect the aging process. Considering the increase in the aging population and the number of older people encountered by family physicians in the outpatient clinic, determining the factors affecting successful aging is a guide for physicians and future studies.
