Özet

In today’s competitive world, the efforts to change and regeneration of private schools that play a decisive role in the education sector are increasing day by day. In this direction, many master’s and doctoral thesis studies related to private schools were carried out. The aim of this research is to examine both thematic and methodical trends of graduate thesis related to private schools. Descriptional content analysis was used as a research method. It is thought that the general depiction of the studies as a whole will allow more effective reading of the studies made in the literature. For this purpose, the YÖK thesis database, which is the National Thesis Center, was used. The words “private school”, “private education institutions” and “college” were used as keywords while scanning the YÖK thesis database. As a result of the screening, 230 master’s and doctoral thesis published between 2010 and 2021 were examined with these keywords and a total of 191 thesis were examined by subtracting thesis that did not fit the purpose. These theses were analyzed using the classification form according to the field, type, university, year, subject, methods and patterns, sampling, data collection tool and data analysis method. In the examined studies, it was observed that the number of master’s thesis was higher than the number of doctoral thesis and that the studies were mainly carried out in private schools in Istanbul. The studies carried out between 2018-2021 were more than the studies carried out between 2010 and 2018. In the studies, it was concluded that mostly quantitative methods and scanning patterns were selected as methods and purposeful sampling and variations were used as sampling methods. Variables in quantitative studies and cases focused on qualitative studies were classified and shown with tables in the study.
