In this paper, I assume that Ottoman law places at the crossroads of different disciplines and requires an interdisciplinary approach. I argue that a combination of the concepts of “integrity” in jurisprudence, “madhhab” in fiqh, “legal culture” in sociology, and a de-compartmentalized or holistic understanding of history will make this approach applicable in the field of Ottoman law. My conclusion is that by using these terms, one will not only address those disciplines together but also help scholars to produce better and more nuanced studies.
