Özet

AIM: Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG) is a vastly used and easily applicable nutritional access in compromised deglutition patients. Patients who have undergone PEG procedure  as a part of surgical practice due to diverse indications were scrutinized and evaluated in our study.

MATERIALS-METHODS: Patients who submitted to Private Göztepe Hospital and Marmara

University Pendik Hospitals General Surgery Departments Endoscopy Units due to pharyngeal and esophageal deglutition problems included in the study. All PEG undertaken patients during last one year have retrospectively screened. Patients demographics, PEG indications, comorbid conditions, procedure duration, post procedure complications were extracted form patient records.

RESULTS: 150 Patients data have been able to be obtained. Mean age of pts was 78. Female:Male ratio was 83:67 (55:45). Indications were as loss of swallowing reflex and

dysphagia due to chronic illnesses in 74 pts (49 %), replacement of previously inserted PEG

tube 16 pts (11 %), malnutrition in 27 pts (18%), nasogastric tube intoerence in 18 pts (12 %) and nasogastric tube intolerance in 15 pts (10 %). As for the complications, tube dislogement was seen in 10 pts and wound infection in 12 pts. Sedo-analgesia by anesthesia team was underwent in 15 pts apart from 135 pts which have only light sedation with midazolam. CONCLUSION:  PEG is a readily available and easily used surgical nutritional access technique. It can safely be taken place as a part of routine surgical practice without any major complication.
