Attributes of Teachers and Their Reflection on Students in Democratic Societies

Özet

In the research, it is aimed to determine the attributes that the teachers should attain and to identify these attributes' reflection on the students in democratic societies. In this context, the problem of the research is constituted by the question "Is Qualities Which Social Studies Teachers Effective on Development of Student's Democratic Behavior?" The method of the research had been planned as a case study within qualitative research methods. Within this context, fourteen social studies teachers from three different schools and the classes they teach were analyzed by the configured observation forms prepared by the researchers. Additionally, in order to support the data that had been obtained from the research, focus group interviews were made with the selected target students. The obtained data was analyzed through content analysis. It was observed that most of the teachers participated in the research were demonstrating behaviors that could be qualified as democratic, and it was determined that a large part of these behaviors reflected the behaviors of the students.
