V. Uluslararası Afro-Avrasya Araştırmaları Kongresi, Lefkoşa, Kıbrıs (Kktc), 19 - 22 Nisan 2019, (Özet Bildiri)
The aim of this study is to make political economic analysis of Scottish secession in the light of
conceptual baseline and economic data. In the preparation of this analysis, the literature review, the
economic data of Scotland and the discourses of the separatists were used. In this study, the political
economic aspect of the Scottish demands for secession was tried to be examined in terms of
conceptual, historical and especially economic framework. The important role of economic reasons in
entering of the Scotland into the UK and this is still an important factor in the politics of secession.
However, the UK and the EU do not favor this separation. Therefore, it is possible that both the new
neighbor UK and the EU will abstain from approaching economic cooperation. Therefore, it is likely
that voters will focus on their possible losses rather than economic gain and prefer the status quo. As
a result, the Scottish separatists have to put their economic justification on solid foundations and, more
importantly, make all the Scots believe.
