Özet

Using natural colorants in the modern world is the recent demand by the globe as an
alternative to toxic synthetic colorants. For the current study, Arjun bark (Terminalia arjuna)
has been explored to see its coloring potential for cotton. Fabric and extracts were prepared &
stimulated using Gamma treatment for up to 6kGy. Shades were developed using the selected
amount of chemical & bio-mordant & assessed for colorfastness as per ISO standards. The
studies reveal that 50 mL of acidic extract from 4g of Arjun (Terminalia arjuna) powder of 5
pH when employed onto cotton at 85 °C for 45 min. has given excellent results. The results
reveal that using optimum conditions, the particular amount of chemical and bio-mordants
have not only given good color characteristics to cotton fabrics but also enhanced their
fastness rating to light, washing, crocking, dry cleaning, and perspiration. Conclusively it is
recommended that Gamma raycan be used to isolate colorant from Arjun (Terminalia arjuna)
in suitable medium & bio-mordants should be preferred instead of chemical anchors at
selected conditions to develop colorfast shades
