Especially with the introduction of immersive technologies into the media sector, changes and innovations began to occur in journalism practices. The storytelling style of traditional publishing practices based on text and visuals turns into experiential narratives and news content with wearable technologies. The increasing use of wearable technologies in many areas from media and entertainment to business life around the world, the popularity of Metaverse environments, and the organization of many virtual events bring to the fore the idea of supporting journalism practices in this field with immersive experiences.
As in traditional journalism practices, in the reporting processes related to Metaverse environments, the journalist's experience, availability, or conveying the participatory opinion is important in terms of the accuracy and reliability of the news. This study focused on the effect of immersive experiences on news content compared to text and video content in the news production processes related to Metaverse environments.
In this context, journalism practices, media, digitalization, and immersive technologies constitute the study's conceptual framework. The qualitative content analysis method was adopted in the study. News about events held in immersive environments were analyzed. It tried to reveal the effect of the immersive experience on the content in news production by investigating whether the journalists' experiences, comments, and detailed information about the news were included in the content.
