In this work, conventional (HT) and microwave (MW) heating in the exhaust dyeing of the trilobal and round shaped polyester (PES) yarns were studied with C.I. Disperse Yellow 184/1, a fluorescent dye. The colouristic and fastness properties of the dyed fabrics and the effects of fibre cross-sectional shape on dyeing were investigated and compared with each other. Microwave dielectric heating provides many advantages over the conventional heating. It provides uniform dyeing in a very short time, good colour fastnesses and the repeatability in dyeing.
