Özet

The adverse effect of UV radiation on human health is very much concerned and the

demand for the garments having UV protection property is very much increased

recently. In this work, 100% cotton, 97.5/2.5 % viscose/lycra, 50/50 % polyester/cotton,

55/45% viscose and 100% polyester fabrics were treated with different amounts of

various UV absorbers, namely Rayosan C, Tinofast CEL, Cibafast P and Fadex ECS.

The UV protection property of the fabrics, which is given by the treatments with UV

absorbers, is expressed by the UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) values of the fabrics.

The UPF values were calculated in accordance with the AS/NZS 4399:1996 standard,

by measuring the transmittance values of the fabrics from 290 nm to 400 nm

wavelength range. The UV absorbers have imparted a different UV protection effect to

each fabric, varying from “good” to “excellent” UVR protection categories. However,

less effect was obtained from the applications with 55/45 % polyester/viscose fabrics.
