Özet

Squaric acid, hence the name, is almost square-shaped, and this intriguing moiety has recently attracted considerable attention from the polymer community. Herein, we prepared thermoset materials by using squaryl dichloride (SqCl2) and multifunctional thiol compounds. Thermal and optical properties of the prepared thermosets were determined. Due to the rigid aromatic squarate motifs, the resulting polythioester thermosets exhibited exceptional thermal properties. The prepared films were transparent and yellow. The films exhibited moderate to excellent gel content values. Moreover, the prepared networks had hydrophilic surfaces and absorbed around 10% water. The thermoset films were unaffected by aqueous acidic media. On the other hand, all thermosets degraded within 3 h in 10% aqueous sodium hydroxide solutions. Finally, squaryl-based thermosets displayed antioxidant properties.
