Özet

In the history, economical, ecological, political, scientific advancements have experienced and still go on experiencing today, certain number of crises like wars and pandemics. In particular, some of those crises have come into contact and been identified with architecture or in certain cases architecture is faced with consequences of its response or silence to such conditions could lead to congestion or to new possibilities. For a novelty to occur, absolutism and transcendency should be abandoned. This abstinence from transcendency could lead to the possibility of the emergent discourses which could be considered as the phenomenon of crisis. In this context, it is of importance in the epistemology of architecture that the connotation of this phenomenon should point to the expanding possibilities rather than to the obstructive impasses. In the absence of crises in architecture, everything turns out to be the same. New discursive formations come into being only in the existence of a crisis and most of the contents, although not explicitly but rather implicitly, define the condition of crisis and develops its content on it. Architecture insures its own praxis by means of crises. The versatile discipline of architecture, which is obligated to respond to the epistemic regimes it finds itself in, exhibits a structure that both constructs itself while also deconstructing itself, thereby revealing the various realities of crisis situations and indicating that crises can serve as tools in the structuring of architectural episteme. In this context, the purpose of the study is to reveal how architecture can handle the concept of crisis in its epistemic field and to discuss the potential of this concept, which is generally attributed to negativity. The study employs a grounded theory methodology that adopts a perspective aimed at discourse production among qualitative research methods. This method, applied within a framework of three coding by researchers, firstly attempts to uncover the etymological origins of the crisis phenomenon and the discourses developed around the concept of crisis, thus establishing a conceptual groundwork. The second stage is directed towards exploring the equivalents of the crisis phenomenon in architecture, focusing on Le Corbusier's Maison Domino. The final stage, within the potential provided by the concept of crisis and the framework it organizes, concentrates on critically and creatively examining modern architecture through the “self-referential sign” state of Maison Domino. This triple coding framework adopts an approach that both problematizes and reconciles. While Maison Domino is a prototype that Le Corbusier aimed to build and is a system that only references itself and aims to make the types that will be produced after it doomed to itself, it builds a paradox within the abstract possibilities it contains and examining this relationship is important for the study. As a result of the study, the discussion revolves around what will remain when the claim of transcendence in epistemology addressed in modern architecture is removed with the theoretical framework developed with the phenomenon of crisis. It debates whether the ground of being tied to crisis still persists within it during attempts of deconstruction and reconstruction, or conversely, whether new opportunities will emerge. Ultimately, it is important to reflect on the potentials behind crises defined as transcendence and ensure that they are pondered upon so that crises can transform from a state of crisis to critique.
