Özet

In this work, ZIF-4 was synthesized and employed as a porous surface modifier for activated graphite electrodes to investigate its influence on the electrochemical performance of aqueous redox systems and supercapacitors. Based on the electrochemical measurements, analysis of the anodic and cathodic peak currents revealed that the ZIF-4-decorated activated graphite electrode exhibited a 1.63- to 1.73-fold higher electrochemically active surface area than the bare activated graphite electrode. Electrochemical measurements performed with Alizarin Red S and potassium hexacyanoferrate redox couples revealed the feasibility of combining these representative redox systems within potential window exceeding 1.5 V. The cathodic-to-anodic peak current ratio (ipC/ipA) was close to unity for Alizarin Red S, while a value of ∼0.7 was obtained for the hexacyanoferrate couple. Notably, both redox species maintained peak separations of approximately 250 mV even at relatively high scan rates (25 mV s−1), indicating relatively fast electron-transfer kinetics on the ZIF-4-modified surface. The capacitive properties were further examined in KOH electrolyte. While activated graphite delivered a specific capacitance of about 1.5 mF cm−2, the ZIF-4-coated electrode exhibited capacitance values exceeding 6 mF cm−2, demonstrating the strong contribution of the porous framework to charge storage. These findings highlight the capability of ZIF-4 to enhance electrode kinetics and electrochemical activity, suggesting its potential as a multifunctional material for dissolved redox systems and supercapacitor devices.
