This article examines the Şükrü Baban Report, prepared in 1938 during Baban’s appointment as acting director of the School of Economics and Commerce. The report, obtained from Baban’s personal archive and previously unpublished, contains detailed observations on the school’s institutional structure, student body, teaching staff, curriculum, and future organization. The article first outlines the historical development of the school from the late Ottoman period to the Republican era, with particular attention to the changes made in its administrative structure and course programs. It then focuses on Baban’s assessment of the school’s existing problems and his proposals for reform. His recommendations are also compared with the curricula implemented before and after the report. Based on a previously unpublished primary source, the article argues that Baban’s report should be read as part of the broader reform efforts concerning higher commercial education in Türkiye. In this respect, the study contributes both to the institutional history of the Istanbul School of Economics and Commerce and to the history of economics and commercial education in the Republican period.
