Abstract

In a partial nitritation pilot reactor, complete ammonium oxidation (Comammox) was studied with mainstream grit chamber effluent under limited dissolved oxygen condition. The SBR IFAS type pilot reactor has been operated for about 80 days under DO less than 0.5 mg/l. In spite of operation under very low DO conditions, more than half of the TKN was successfully removed with fluctuating nitrite and nitrate generation. TN removal was observed around 40% indicating denitrification and possible Anammox activity in the system. The process results will be evaluated together with microbial diversity changes in the long term.
