Abstract

Today, with the pandemic process we are in, interest in online psychotherapies has increased. This research aims to learn the views and experiences of psychotherapists about online psychotherapy practices, which are increasing day by day. In this qualitative study, in-depth interviews were conducted with ten psychotherapists, and information was collected about the participants' views and experiences with online therapies. After the interviews were completed, thematic analysis was made, and the themes and sub-themes were determined. Participants stated that online therapies provide advantages in accessibility, comfort, and privacy of patients, low cost, patients who cannot leave the house, and accessibility from home during the pandemic process. Inability to use body language, interruption of therapy, inability to create a professional therapy process, difficulty adapting children and the elderly, fake therapists, and ethical problems were the disadvantages mentioned. In conclusion, online psychological support has gained importance during the pandemic period. Online therapies, which are relatively new in our country, are open to development. In order to reduce the disadvantages and increase the effectiveness of these therapies, legal regulations should be established, the content of the therapy process should be regulated, and scientific standards should be determined.
