The purpose of the study is to explain whether the purchasing of
sports clothing, footwear, equipment or accessories is for sports use or not.
In addition, the most preferable product category is found for exercise by
individuals in age from 18 to 34. 303 voluntary participants were conducted which lived in
Nottingham, UK and had studied or worked in Nottingham Trent University.
Participants were asked to answer why they have bought sports clothing,
footwear, equipment or accessories in the past 12 months for either yourself or
someone else. Out of them, 189 ( % 62,4) had made purchases only for sports use
when 43 (% 14,2) was for non-sports use. 19 (% 6.2) was not only for sports use
but also non-sports use. 14 (% 4.6) persons said that they don’t know or can’t
remember the purchasing cause. For sport use, clothing and footwear were bought
by 158 persons, equipment and accessories were by 43 ones, and any purchase of
sports goods was by 48 ones. For non-sports use, 30 persons said that they
bought clothing and footwear when few prefered to buy equipment and accessories
or any purchase of sports goods. In the past 12 months, some items were
purchased not only for sports use but also non-sports use: clothing and
footwear by 18, equipment and accessories by 12 and any purchase of sports
goods by 10. As a result, the most preferable product category is found as
clothing and footwear for sports use and other reasons.
