Özet

High visibility safety garments should be worn by anyone who is exposed at work to potentially hazardous

situations and these are specially designed to maximise the visibility of the wearer from all angles. Minimum

requirements for fluorescent background fabric and retroreflective strips are specified in EN471:2003. These

garments are mainly used by the police forces, the road rescue services, the fire brigades, the towns refuse

collectors and many other workers who want to draw attention to themselves as these materials are easily

recognisable. These garments must provide high visibility protection and stand up to daily use in hard

working conditions, and they must be comfortable to wear as well. In this work, 100% polyester fabrics were

dyed with two fluorescent dyes, namely C.I. Disperse Red 277 and C.I. Disperse Yellow 184/1. These

fluorescent dyed fabrics were then treated with a water/soil repellent agent. The colouristic and fastness

properties of the dyed and finished fabrics were investigated.
