Technical textiles are divided into 12 areas in itself. Agro textiles are one of these sub-branches and divided into 4 main headings in itself. These are agriculture, aquaculture, horticulture & forest- ry and animal husbandry. The importance of agricultural textiles is increasing due to increasing population, global warming, de- crease in agricultural lands and difficulty in accessing clean water resources. [1-2-5-6-8]
The global market value of technical textile sector is estimated at 207 billion dollars per year in 2020. Agricultural textiles, with a total value of 9.05 billion dollars, contributes 39% to the field of technical textiles. [11]
The global agrotextile market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.7% from 2021 to 2028. In- creasing product demand and technological developments in the agricultural sector for better crop quality and increased produc- tivity are expected to drive the market throughout the forecast period. The increase in product use
in various sectors, including aqua- culture and horticulture, is expected to have a positive impact on mar- ket growth. Positive government policies promoting sustainable practices in agriculture and related sectors, particularly in developing regions such as India and Indonesia, are also expected to boost market growth. [9]
With global warming and climate
change, the yield from agricultural
lands is decreasing. Pesticides and
herbicides are used to grow more crops on lands that are not productive compared to previous years. It is aimed to replace the use of pesticides and herbicides by increasing productivity with products such as insect repellent fabric and mulch mats from Agro textile products. [3]
Changing consumer needs, improvement in the economic situa- tion, technological advances in the market and awareness of crop protection among farmers are some of the key factors driving the growth of the agriculture segment. [2-5-6-8]
With Agro textiles, it is aimed to optimize environmental con- ditions such as water saving with moisture-retaining fabrics in order to increase productivity, protecting soil temperature with mulch fabrics, protecting the plant from excessive sunburn by transmitting the light to a certain extent with greenhouse covers, by optimizing it.
